Scripture:
“Cheap grace is the grace we bestow on ourselves… grace without discipleship, grace without the cross, grace without Jesus Christ, living and incarnate.”
— Dietrich Bonhoeffer, The Cost of Discipleship

Devotional:
Dietrich Bonhoeffer lived in a time when many called themselves Christians but lived no differently than the world around them. He recognized a troubling trend—people wanted the benefits of grace without the cost of discipleship.

Cheap grace says, “God loves me, so I can live however I want.” True grace transforms. When we encounter the real Jesus, we don’t stay the same. The cross calls us to repentance, and repentance leads to change. If our faith does not cost us anything, we must ask—have we truly surrendered to Christ?

Reflection:
Are you living in cheap grace or costly grace? How does your life reflect a faith that follows Jesus wholeheartedly?

Memory Verse:
“This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!”
— 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NLT)
