6th Week – Day 2: Following Him to a Higher Destiny
Reading: Mark 1:16–20
16 One day as Jesus was walking along the shore of the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew throwing a net into the water, for they fished for a living. 17 Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!” 18 And they left their nets at once and followed him. 19 A little farther up the shore Jesus saw Zebedee’s sons, James and John, in a boat repairing their nets. 20 He called them at once, and they also followed him, leaving their father, Zebedee, in the boat with the hired men.
Reflection:
- When Jesus called His first disciples, He offered them not just a job but a new destiny—one that went far beyond the familiar routines of daily life. Leaving behind nets, family, and the only life they’d ever known, they stepped into a calling that was both challenging and transformative. Today, consider what it means for you to follow Jesus. What “nets” might you need to leave behind to embrace the higher, spiritual destiny He offers?
Prayer Prompt:
Jesus, I desire to follow You wholeheartedly. Give me the courage to leave behind my old ways and step into the destiny You have prepared for me. Transform my life so I may become a true fisher of men. Amen.
Memory Verse:
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! – 2 Corinthians 5:17 NIV
