4th Week – Day 3: The Blood of the Covenant
Reading: Exodus 24:7-8
“Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it in the hearing of the people. And they said, ‘All that the Lord has spoken we will do, and we will be obedient.’ And Moses took the blood and threw it on the people and said, ‘Behold the blood of the covenant that the Lord has made with you.’”
The Old Testament covenant was sealed with blood, a reminder that sin required a cost. Throughout Scripture, we see that blood is at the core of our relationship with God—from Abel’s blood crying out for justice to the sacrificial system in Israel. Yet, these sacrifices were temporary solutions.
God’s ultimate plan was not for endless offerings but for a permanent atonement. The foreshadowing of blood in the Old Testament pointed forward to Jesus, whose blood would cleanse us once and for all.
Reflection:
- Why do you think God uses blood to signify covenant?
- How does Jesus’ sacrifice change the way you approach God?
Prayer Prompt:
Thank Jesus for shedding His blood so you could be forgiven. Pray for a deeper understanding of His sacrifice and what it means for your life.
Memory Verse: Romans 3:23—for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
