In the past two decades, tens of thousands of refugees escaping violence, persecution and hardship have lost their lives at sea while searching for a better life.
Started by a husband and wife in 2013, Migrant Offshore Aid Station (MOAS) is a charity dedicated to saving lives at sea by providing professional search and rescue to people in distress. It is a privately funded organization and 91% of its donations go directly to assisting migrants at risk on the sea.
In its first two years of operation, MOAS rescued nearly 12,000 people from drowning. In 2016, MOAS is expanding its search-and-rescue mission to south-east Asia.
Tickets are $14 per person.
Childcare is also available at $10 per family.
Dinner starts at 6 pm and swing dancing starts at 7.
