Feeling down or depressed?  You’re not alone.  Millions of people suffer every day from feelings of loneliness, anxiety or depression.  But there are things you can do today to begin to change those feelings, and when you change your feelings, you change your reality.  Start here:

Step 1: Believe That It’s Temporary
Don’t let yourself fall into the trap of believing that loneliness is forever. You might feel lonely today, this week, or even this month, but it doesn’t mean you are alone or that you have no one who cares for you.

Like all feelings, loneliness is impermanent and it does not define who you are. Accept that you feel lonely, then focus on moving forward.
“A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling. God sets the lonely in families, he leads out the prisoners with singing; but the rebellious live in a sun-scorched land.”   ‭‭Psalm‬ ‭68:5-6‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Step 2: Get Connected
Start today by reaching out to someone you’d like to spend more time with.  Make plans and commit to them, even if you don’t feel like it. You’ll be glad you did.  Next, get involved in a small group. They would love to have you. We have groups for everyone.  Click here to find the one that’s right for you.

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” Hebrews‬ ‭10:24-25‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Step 3: Turn Off Social Media
Facebook reads like a highlight reel of your friends’ best moments, but that’s not an accurate picture of real life.  Stop comparing your every day with their crowning achievements. Instead, take a break and disconnect from social media. Consider logging off for a day, a week, or even a month.  You’ll have a lot more time to focus on real relationships.

Step 4: Retrain Your Brain
Start by being thankful.  No matter how bad things may seem, there is always something to be grateful for.  Take time right now to write down 5 things that you are thankful for. Post it in a place you will see it every day.  Tomorrow, do the same thing. Focus on the positive and you will start to see things in a whole new way.

“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.” Psalm‬ ‭107:1‬

Step 5: Learn To Be Content With Yourself
Even though we can’t always spend time with others, we can still enjoy our time alone with God.  Start a new Bible study plan. Try new things, or pick up a hobby you used to love. Get outside, read a book, exercise, do something artistic, or take yourself out for your favorite treat. You’ll be surprised how it can change your mood.

Step 6: Try Something New
What better way to energize your world than to try something new?  Whether you take a road trip, sign up for a class or join a book club, you’ll meet new people and have new experiences to share.  You might even discover a new passion or meet a lifelong friend in the process. I have been looking at the beauty of the individual snowflakes. They say that no two are the same. Think about that for a minute. The Creator of the universe is making each one of these just to show off his creativity and power.

Now think about you. There is no one on earth like you. The Creator of the snowflakes made you. He made you unique and beautiful and special and really, just to show off. He loves you so much that He knows the numbers of hairs on your head. He knows your deepest thoughts and desires. He knows your needs and your longings. And He cares about them all.

God loves you so much that He gave up his only child for you. Have you accepted that gift? It’s the most amazing one you’ll ever receive. It doesn’t make your life magically better, but it gives you a friend who will never leave you. It gives you a Father who loves you unconditionally. It gives you hope for an amazing future, and it gives you a family that will stand beside and help you to become all that He created you to be.

If you want to know more, reach out to us. If you don’t have a family, come join ours. Cross Points Church is a place for you, no matter where you come from or what you’ve done, you are welcome.

“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.”
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭139:13-16‬ ‭NIV‬‬
